This the week of the 68th annual Festival de Cannes, and has been customary for many years this small town in the south of France plays host to players in the international film industry as well as would be or yet to be discovered fill makers along with the world's entertainment journalists. Many people know of the Cannes Film Festival because of it's glitz and glamour, but glitz and glamour is not all the festival is about. It's actually all about the business - the film Business.

 

Over the 12 days of the festival there is an extraordinary meeting of art, celebrity and finance. Cannes is a not to be missed event for the major studios as well as budding film makers. The Festival is the top international market for new films and millions of dollars worth of deals take place here every year. Cannes film festival attracts approximately 29000 movie industry types and a large amount of tourists every year.

 

Quite a few big industry talents made their name in Cannes. Film directors such as Steven Soderbergh and Quentin Tarantino saw there careers take of after first showcasing in the diverse screening events in Cannes.

 

The first Festival de Cannes was held in Cannes in 1939. Born out of despair for what was considered the political bias of the major international film festival at the time (the Venice film festival in Italy). The film the Hunch  Back of Notre Dame was the one and only film screened at the 1939 Festival. The festival had to be cancelled because to the invasion of Poland by Germany pushed France into World War 2. The festival was reintroduced in 1946 and Cannes and the film world have not looked back since!
